HOW I CAN BE A BETTER MALAYSIAN

1) Realise that it's hypocritical to join the "1 million Malaysian who are sick of the RM2.70/liter Petrol price" while insisting on owning and driving big flashy fuel-guzzling cars despite having alternatives such as smaller and more efficient cars, changing driving habits, own a smaller home, drink water instead of Pepsi, Tiger Beer or Vodka Redbull, indulge in Bangsar Nasi Lemak Pedas instead going to KL Hilton and order foie gras, and make the effort to think of other ways to straighten up my own life rather than blame the fuel price for all problems.

2) Be fair, appreciative, nice and kind towards each other regardless of age, gender, race, political-affiliations and religion.

Last I heard, people who stoke racial tension should be arrested under ISA, not merely "reminded".

3) Realise the need to have open and frank discussions especially on subjects that are not well-understood and agreeable by all. Respect the rights to discuss things in good faith, the rights to disagree, the rights to alternative opinions, the rights to information, the rights to be be treated as equal stakeholders.

4) By all means, go out, see the rest of the world, experience what else there is to offer, but always remember that I only have one home. I am equally responsible for the well-being of Malaysia's future. Whether I fight to become the next Prime Minister because I believe I can be a good leader, or choose to give birth to one more because the country needs another doctor, whether I refuse to kill that ant crawling on my screaming wife's dessert to save the specie from extinction, or choose to fart in wooded areas because the trees need those gas more, there's always some role I can play, big or microscopically tiny.

5) Instead of spending so much time coming up with creative facebook status, posting cam-whoring photos, updating blog, and then blaming lack of time for socialising, I should spend more effort to physically get together with friends and family members to eat, drink, talk, laugh and play.

6) Learn to enjoy simple things in life.

7) Appreciate and take care of nature

8) Don't expect shortcuts. Work is not everything, but I need to work for almost everything.

9) Love others more.

10) Less swearing.

Happy 51st Birthday, Malaysia Negaraku.
