Hi-speed dbl-deck train

I've been itching to take a trip on the double-decker high-speed train ever since I spotted it when I arrived in Stockholm. We finally did it today.

They call it, the X2000....

It is touted as the most energy-efficient, most environmental-friendly train in Sweden. With a top-speed of 200 km/h, it can travel from Stockholm to Gothenburg, a distance of 525km, in less than 3 hours. JB - Ipoh under 3 hours. OK lah, not as fast as France's TGV or Japan's Shinkansen. That's the best Swedes can do for now, what to do. And for that distance, the X2000 gives off CO2 emissions equal to only 3ml of petrol. If I walk from Stockholm to Gothenburg, I think I alone would've fart out more CO2 than that! Actually, the train runs fully on electricity. Wife and I are still arguing about which part of the train, emits CO2. Or who.

We read that the Swedes are the most environmental-friendly people in the world. The highest number of hybrid cars can be found here. The government gives you incentives to buy hybrid cars in the form of rebates, lower tax, and excluded from paying congestion tax when driving into the city. All their trains run on electricity. Recycling bins are everywhere and people really do make an effort to separate their trash into papers, bottles, cans, etc. Anyway, back to the train.

Not only is the train energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly, I find it well-designed too. The doors are wide and the boarding is at the same level as the platform, making it easy for those wheelchair-bound and people with heavy luggages or prams. Toilets are large and disabled-friendly. Windows are also large so we get lots of sunlight, which is very pleasant since it's cold outside. Seats are comfortable. Sitting on the top deck allows us to enjoy the scenery better. And wireless internet access is available on board! I brought my laptop along to test this out.

Testing the wireless internet connection

We're impressed. Even when the train is at high-speed, the internet access speed is also quite high. Wife was even able to webcam chat with her mum in Malaysia. Voice is ok, video jerks though.

We stopped at a town called Eskiltuna. Walked around before heading back to Stockholm.
