Carbonara

Encouraged by my first 2 successful attempts at cooking spaghetti, I'm becoming more adventurous and more determined to be a better cook. I know I need to be more systematic, and be more exact in my steps so that success can be replicated again, and again, and again. And I also need to document the exact steps. I've done it twice already so far. I can do it again. No problem. Peace of cake. My wife will be impressed. She's not the only one who can cook, u know.. *snigger*     Found this at the supermarket; carbonara sauce. Unfortunately instructions are in Swedish. Minor obstacle.   Just translate it over the web using online tool. Mix content in pot with 3dl of milk. Boil and stir around 2-3 minutes. Serve! Easy... This should be the last step. Let's do other things I've been doing all this while first.       This is the meatballs I bought from supermarket.   Again, instructions are in Swedish. Easily translated again. ...

Spaghetti

I've been eating out ever since I got here. Today I've decided to start cooking. Serves 2 purposes:   1. Save money   2. Find out if I have some hidden talent in the kitchen   Thanks to some pointers from my dearest wife, I managed to whip up a pot of spaghetti. Boil meatballs I bought from supermarket. It's cooked when they all float. Take it out and put it aside. Fried some eggs. Put it aside. Boil spaghetti until it's soft. Take it out and put it aside. Heat up oil in the pot (got no pan yet). It's heated when it starts to smoke. Pour in tomato pasta sauce and stir for a while. Mix in meatballs. Mix in spaghetti and finally fried eggs. Ready to serve.     QED. Tasted quite good. Pleased with self. Shall try this again tomorrow.

Christmas in Stockholm

Christmas in Sweden is celebrated on the 24th of Dec every year. On 25th, as the rest of the world celebrates, most Swedish families spend quiet time at home. 24th is the day they get together with relatives or friends to party and exchange gifts. I was very fortunate to be invited by my landlord, Mr. Thomas Eriksson, to join him and his family in celebrating Christmas this year. I think he took pity on me, seeing how I'm all alone at home, no friends, no relatives, no party. Haha. Nevetheless, I'm very grateful and happy. No white Christmas, but at least got party!   God Jul!   "God Jul!" is how they greet each other on Christmas. Apparently, this is the first year that Mr. Thomas did not host a party at his house. Instead, we all went to his eldest daughter's place. His daughter and her boyfriend just bought a house in the suburb and invited everybody over. There, I met Thomas' parents (who have been to Singapore and Thailand, but have not heard of Malay...

Weekend before the Christmas. Great opportunity to soak up the festive season.     T-bana   The interior       At Humlegården (behind Kungliga Biblioteket (The Kungliga Library))   Guy selling Christmas tree at Humlegärden. Prices range from 150 to 600 SEK. Very friendly guy. He asked me whether am I Japanese. I think he looks more like Japanese himself.       Walking in the middle of Karlavägen. It's a very long road where pedestrians walk in the middle instead of the two sides of the road.   One of the intersections, with X'mas decoration.   Another public toilet. Got to pay 5SEK to use this.     Another Christmas tree seller.   First time see a Hummer and a Volvo XC90 together. Took this to compare sizes.       Went to the Kaknästornet (The communication tower) today. http://www.kaknastornet.se/ It's a 155m tower which all...
